Homemade Pigs in a Blanket

They are so easy and simple to make you just need some handful ingredients which are going to be mini beef hot dogs you can use any flavor you like. You can also make them ahead of time. First thing you need to do is to take out your store-bought dough or puff pastry and cut them into skinny triangles in lengthwise. Then place the sausage on the wider end of the triangle and roll towards the other end of the dough to wrap securely. Place it in a baking pan with seam side down, lightly brush with egg wash and sprinkled with creole seasoning and bake them until golden brown.

Get your oven preheated to 425 degrees Fahrenheit then take your puff pastry and roll it up. Take a little bit of Dijon mustard and spread a very lightly over the pastry dough. All you want is a little bit of flavor in the background then sprinkle some cheddar evenly over the top. Cut the pastry into 6 rows on both sides then take the egg wash which is just one egg beaten with a little bit of water and brush it on one side then take the little mini beef or pork and just roll it around. Make sure the seam is where you put the egg wash, place it on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Once you have them all rolled up, just brush the tops with some more of the egg wash. Bake them in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown and nicely puffed up.

Ingredients;

  • 32 Mini Hot Dogs, any flavor you like
  • 1 A sheet of Puff Pastry
  • Egg Wash
  • 1 Tbsp (or so) of Dijon Mustard
  • ¼ cup of Shredded Cheddar

Instructions;

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Roll the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, roll it out into a 13X13” square.
  3. Spread the mustard in a thin layer, lightly sprinkle the cheese all over the top.
  4. Cut out 8 strips from the square and then cut across 3 times to you have four rows.
  5. Brush all the edges with the egg wash and roll each mini hot dog in one little strip.
  6. Place it on your prepared baking sheet seam side down, and brush all the tops with the remaining egg wash.
  7. Bake them for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffy.
