Homemade Crispy Onion Rings
This recipe provides you with super crispy onion rings, believe me, the spices are great, the crunchiness is great, and you’re gonna love them. Kick things off by slicing a fairly large white onion at about a quarter-inch thick then divide them into rings.
To make our batter, we will start by putting flour into a bowl, adding cayenne pepper then water and stirring for a minute until it thickens and sets aside. You can use breadcrumbs or not but if you are using breadcrumbs, put them in a pan and set aside then cut a large onion into rings and separate them from each other.
By now, the thickened butter will be perfect. Dump a few rings at a time and let it coat into the butter then put the rings one after the other in the breadcrumbs using a separate fork. In a frying pan, put cooking oil and let it fry at 350 degrees.
Put the rings and let it fry for about three minutes until golden brown with a crisper look. Place them onto a cooling rack sprinkle them with salt and eat with ketchup. We hope you will try it and tell us how you made it on our Facebook page.
Ingredients;
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 1 large egg
- 1⁄4 cup vegetable or canola oil
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 6 cups vegetable or canola oil, for frying
Instructions;
- Combine egg, 1/4 cup oil, and milk in a large bowl. Mix with an electric mixer, set to low speed, for 1 minute.
- Add dry ingredients and continue to mix until smooth.
- Add 6 cups oil to a large, heavy-bottomed pot set to medium heat. Preheat for about 10 minutes, or until the oil reaches about 375 degrees. Reduce heat to low-medium.
- Prepare a large baking sheet with paper towels, to drain excess grease off fried onion rings.
- Dip onion slices in batter, then place into the hot oil. Do this in batches of 4-5 onion rings at a time, so they don’t stick together.
- Fry until golden on both sides, flipping after 30 seconds to 1 minute. Be attentive and take care not to burn.
- You may need to continue to reduce your heat as they cook.
- With a slotted spoon, remove onion rings to a paper towel-lined sheet. Repeat with remaining batches.
- Serve with a spicy ketchup
