This light butter bread is so soft and filled with so much sweetness, that you can add any dried fruits or fill to these. The recipe is also super simple and only requires a few ingredients. Serve them for breakfast or make them for a weekend get-together. Measure one and a half cups of warm milk in a glass jar and add one tablespoon of active dry yeast, make sure your yeast is fresh.

Mix the yeast in then set it on the side to rest for 5 minutes. Once the yeast is activated, add 4 tablespoons of granulated sugar and one teaspoon of salt and mix it in until the sugar is dissolved in the yeast mixture. Add 4 cups of all-purpose flour into a large mixing bowl, follow that with the yeast mixture then start kneading this with your hands until you have a nice stiff dough.

If you have a stand mixer, pour the mixture into the mixer and knead it with the hook attachment for about 5 to 8 minutes or until the dough is stiff. Once the dough has come together, cover it in the bowl for 10 minutes before getting into the second kneading. Place the dough onto your work surface and add 3 tablespoons of unsalted softened butter to the dough.

Knead the dough with the butter for about 8 minutes until all the butter is incorporated into the dough. Your dough will be soft but not sticky once you are done. Lightly brush the mixing bowl with oil then place the dough in the bowl cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest for 45 to 60 minutes or until it doubles in size.

Once proofed, punch the dough to release the air buildup in the dough place it on your working surface and keep it for just a minute. Cut the dough into your desired size, this dough’ will give you 12 medium-sized balls. Use your hands to form the round balls and line them on a greased baking tray. Top them with sliced almonds then cover and let them rest for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 160C/ 325F for about 10 minutes then bake them for 20 to 25 minutes or until they turn golden brown on top. Immediately then out of the oven, brush the top with melted butter. Serve them warm or cold with your favourite spreading.
