Moist Chocolate Layer Cake

When one layer of chocolate cake just isn’t enough, making this three-layer chocolate cake is one of every chocolate lover’s dreams. The cake is old fashioned which is very easy to put the ingredients together, super moist and delicious. You will start by mixing the dry ingredients first, in a bowl with flour, add sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and a little bit of salt and then mix everything well then set it aside.

For the wet ingredients, you will add some eggs to the dry ingredients and then buttermilk which makes your cake super moist. Add in vegetable oil, then hot coffee and this will make your cake extra rich and flavourful. Using a hand mixer, mix everything until it is incorporated and you don’t want to overmix the batter otherwise the cake will come out tough.

Mix it just until you achieve a creamy batter that is smooth and perfect. Line three 8-inch baking pan and grease them then dust them with flour to prevent the cake from sticking. Equally, pour the cake batter into each pan, you can use a measuring cup for this or just eyeball then tap them to get rid of the air bubbles.

Bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 to 30 minutes. While the cake is baking, prepare your chocolate frosting, beat butter and cream cheese in a bowl until very nice and fluffy then add some powdered sugar a little bit at a time which will incorporate more air into the mixture and that makes the best frosting.

Once the powdered sugar is well incorporated, add the cocoa powder, salt, and some milk. You can always add more milk when your frosting is too thick. Mix everything together until you achieve a nice creamy frosting. Once your cakes are done baking, let them cool completely before removing them out of the pan and they will be ready to be frosted.

Place one layer of the cake on a cake stand then scoop the frosting and cover it from the centre of the cake and place the second layer., frost the top then place the third layer of the cake. Cover the whole of the cake with the frosting then slice. This cake is so moist and rich and decadent and yummy, this is a must-bake cake.

Ingredients;

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil

Frosting;

  • 8 OZ cream cheese
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbs milk
