This cake is tasty and has a rich orange flavour from the orange syrup. Many people fear making cakes because they think it’s too hard. But with this recipe, I hope to show that it’s not. Making an orange syrup cake is fun, primarily when you use a food processor to mix everything. You can also use a bowl or a stand mixer if you prefer.

You can still do it by hand; mix your butter and sugar first and then add everything else. Add softened butter, white sugar, and self-rising flour to the food processor. (If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can use all-purpose flour and add baking powder.) Add the zest of two oranges, just finely grated, and juice the oranges you have zested.

Pop the lid on and mix until smooth. Pour the batter into a round-shaped tin greased with butter. Pour the batter into the tin and bake the cake in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 45 minutes. Check it for about half an hour. If it looks like it’s about to start burning, take it out of the oven, put some foil on top, and return it to the oven for the remaining time. In the meantime, start preparing the orange syrup.

Making the orange syrup is ridiculously simple. Pour the syrup into the jug, add the powdered icing sugar, and then pour in the remaining orange juice. Stir it up until all the sugar is dissolved. No heating is required; just get all that icing sugar completely integrated and smooth.

Once the cake is baked, let it rest for ten minutes out of the oven, and then pour the beautiful orange syrup over the warm cake. Let the syrup soak in for about five minutes. Then, you can slice it and enjoy the cake. It should have that orange flavour; it’s sweet and tangy, and the syrup is absorbed through the cake. Enjoy…
