This is a rich and delicious cake, it is soft and full of orange flavour from the orange syrup. A lot of people are intimidated in making cakes because they think it is extremely complicated well this recipe I’m hoping that I can dispel those fears forever. Orange syrup cake is so much fun to make and I am doing it the sort of shortcut by doing it all in the food processor to make the cake mixture.
You can still do it by hand you just mix your butter and sugar together first and then add everything else in but first things first into the food processor am putting in softened butter, white sugar, self-rising flour (if you don’t have self- rising flour you can use all-purpose flour and add in baking powder) then add in the zest of two oranges just finely grated with a zester now I have also juiced the oranges that I have zested. I will use a little of the juice and the other will be used for the syrup and am also adding in eggs and that is it.
Pop the lid on and mix until smooth then into a round-shaped tin that is greased with butter, pour the batter into the tin and bake the cake in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 45 minutes. Check it about half an hour if it looks like it’s about to start burning to take it out of the oven put some foil on top and return it into the oven for the remaining time. in the meantime, start preparing the orange syrup.
Making the orange syrup is ridiculously simple into the jug, add icing sugar which is just powdered then pour in the remaining orange juice and stir it up until all the sugar is dissolved no heating required just get all that icing sugar completely integrated it in all you have to do is paint it over the finished cake on still hot.
Once the cake is baked, let it rest for ten minutes out of the oven then pour the beautiful orange syrup over the warm cake. Let the syrup soak i for about five minutes then you can slice it and enjoy the cake. It should have that orange flavour, its sweet its tangy, and the syrup is absorbed all through the cake.
- Juice of 1 Orange
- Zest of 2 Oranges
- 220g Soft Butter
- 1 1/2 cups of Self Raising Flour
- 1 cup of White Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- Juice of 1 Orange
- 1/2 Cup of Icing Sugar
- Preparation Time: 10 minutes
- Cooking Time: Bake in preheated 350 degrees Fahrenheit oven(180 degrees C) for 45 minutes, since oven varies in temperature, start checking the cake after 30 minutes.
- Once baked, let the cake sit out of the oven for around 5 to 10 minutes then pour the syrup over the cake.
- Slice and enjoy.
